Community Events
Community involvement directly benefits victims of domestic violence and their families by helping Laurel House raise awareness and necessary funds.
Thank you for your interest in conducting a fundraising event to benefit Laurel House! Every day, we are in awe of our community's creative, energetic and inspiring ideas to raise money for Laurel House and our vision of a society where all individuals are safe in their relationships and can flourish.
Your event will support our mission to advocate for and empower those impacted by domestic violence. We are deeply grateful for the generous contributions from our community members who share our commitment to our mission and goals. These contributions have sustained our work since 1980! In addition to the donations, your help in raising awareness about domestic violence and the services that Laurel House can provide is invaluable.
To help your event succeed, Laurel House will provide the following:
- Notification of the event on Laurel House’s social media platforms (Facebook, Instagram, and LinkedIn when applicable) and monthly e-newsletter (if at least 30 days notice is given).
- An event landing page through QGiv; you will be responsible for providing this link to your own audience.
- Informational brochures or fact sheets about our programs and services.
- Attendance at the event, based on availability, to speak about Laurel House’s mission and/or receive proceeds by a member of our staff or trained volunteer.
- Use of our logo and name upon review of event materials.
- Acknowledgement letters and written tax receipts to donors who make checks payable to Laurel House.
A third party event is a fundraising activity by a group or individual, where the benefactor has no fiduciary responsibilities and little or no staff involvement.
Notifying Laurel house of your event is not required if you do not need us to assist in promoting your event in any capacity. Should you need our assistance, see below for a general guideline:
- If you do not need Laurel House to assist in promoting the event but would like a representative to speak at your event: 10 days notice
- If you will need some assistance in promoting the event (social media/e-news): 21 days notice
- If you will need a significant amount of assistance in promoting the event (social media/landing page/e-news): 45 days notice
The earlier you send us images, wording, links, etc., the earlier we can begin to assist you in promoting your event.
When requested in advance, we will make every effort to have a speaker available at the event. We regret, however, that we cannot always guarantee a Laurel House representative will be able to attend every event
Third Party fundraising events must be referred to as “benefiting Laurel House.” They may not be represented as “sponsored by”, “conducted on behalf”, or any similar terminology.
Here are some successful community fundraising ideas we've been thrilled to be a part of:
- Classes (yoga, painting, etc.) where proceeds from registration are donated to the beneficiary
- For businesses: product launches, happy hours, etc. where attendees are encouraged to bring a wish-list item as their registration fee
- For schools: a dress-down day where students are encouraged to donate to participate
Absolutely! If you choose to have Laurel House set up a QGiv landing page for your event, registrants will be able to make a donation at the time of registration. You can also direct attendees to our online donation form or our PayPal!
Although in most cases, notifying us of your event is not required, we appreciate being informed of events and (possibly) being able to attend! If you are interested in hosting a third party event to benefit Laurel House and would like our assistance in promoting it, please reach out to our Development Department (development@laurel-house.org).
Check the events calendar often for any upcoming event details!
