Volunteer

Volunteers are the backbone of Laurel House!

Laurel House could not provide the services that we do without our volunteers.

If you are interested in volunteering or would like to find out about current volunteering opportunities, please contact our Volunteer Coordinator at 610-277-1860 x105 for more information. You may also fill out this form and return it to volunteers@laurel-house.org.

All volunteers will be asked to complete an application and submit to both a criminal background check as well as a child abuse clearance. For those individuals who are interested in volunteering in a position in which you would work directly with our clients, it is required that you complete a training course that is mandated by the Pennsylvania Coalition Against Domestic Violence. The training is approximately 45 hours and is held two times a year at Laurel House.

Volunteer opportunities also exist for those who do not wish to work directly with clients. Some examples of non-direct volunteer opportunities are community education, donation drives, etc.

Below are some volunteer activities that you can do to raise awareness about domestic violence:

  • Arrange a presentation for your group so that you and your group can learn more about dating and domestic violence, and about the ways that you can help to “raise awareness” within your own community about domestic abuse and the resources that are available.
  • Approach your favorite local businesses and shops about holding a used cell phone collection drive (we provide the collection boxes, brochures, and receipts).
  • Collect items from Laurel House wish list or Adopt a Room program.
  • Organize a “party” or a regularly scheduled potluck lunch or dinner at work or in someone’s home, at which each person makes a donation of $5 or more to be given to Laurel House. A similar idea is that instead of a cash/check donation, each person’s “entry fee” to the dinner is a package of SEPTA tokens (or something else from our “Wish List”).
  • Organize a “Dress Down/in Purple Day” at your office. Have people pay to “dress down” for the day. Collect and give the proceeds to Laurel House. Some groups make this a monthly event.

Interested in hosting an event to benefit Laurel House? Please review and complete this form and return it to us.
