EMERGENCY SHELTER
Fleeing an abusive partner can be one of the most dangerous times for a victim of domestic abuse. Many victims lack the financial resources or support systems to survive without their abuser. Recognizing this impediment, Laurel House offers emergency shelter services. Each year, there are 150-200 victims and their children that come through our shelter.
Domestic abuse victims and their children are provided with the following services, free of charge, while staying at our emergency shelter:
➤ Up to 30 days of shelter
➤ Individual and group counseling
➤ Advocacy services
➤ Case management
➤ Legal representation
➤ Food, clothing, toiletries, linens, and more
Our highly skilled staff works with victims and their families, helping them find the strength to stand on their own. Our shelter offers a safe and nurturing environment where victims can heal and move forward with their lives.
SAFE HAVEN CENTER
The Safe Haven Center, our emergency shelter facility, is close to public transportation, job training programs, employment opportunities, and many other community resources. It is 9,000 square feet of warm and welcoming space, which provides increased capacity and accessibility to on-site services, including a 24- hour hotline, crisis response, individual and group counseling, case management, and programs for children. As the county’s only comprehensive domestic violence agency, Laurel House provides life-saving services and support for the entire community. This secure and easily accessible shelter is the only one in the county.
The Safe Haven Center allowed us to:
➤ Increase from 27 to 34 beds with the flexibility to configure rooms based on the number of people in the family
➤ Provide enhanced on-site services to residents including crisis response, individual and group counseling, programs for children, and more under one roof
➤ Accommodate survivors with crutches, in wheelchairs, or other mobility difficulties with our ADA-compliant elevator
➤ Increase office and meeting space to ensure resident privacy
➤ Offer on-site amenities: laundry, pantry, library, and more
