Internships at Laurel House
Interns play a crucial role in the success of our lifesaving programs and services. Over the years, we’ve had students from Cabrini, Gwynedd Mercy University, Penn State Abington, LaSalle, and other local institutions. Our interns receive training in JUSTICE, AUTONOMY, RESTORATION, and SAFETY (JARS), becoming credentialed domestic violence advocates.
Laurel House offers internship opportunities to college students in the following departments:
Counseling: Laurel House provides Clinical Counseling Practicum and Internship opportunities for master’s-level students in counseling and social work. The Counseling Program at Laurel House provides trauma-informed counseling and support services to survivors of domestic violence in both residential and community settings. The role of a student intern includes: crisis intervention, individual and group counseling, advocacy, and participation in program development. Interns will gain hands-on experience in providing direct services while working under the supervision of a licensed clinician.

Shelter: Fleeing an abusive partner can be one of the most dangerous times for a victim of domestic abuse. Many victims lack the financial resources or support systems to survive without their abuser. Recognizing this impediment, Laurel House offers emergency shelter services. Each year, there are 150-200 victims and their children that come through our shelter. Interns gain hands-on experience, including shelter intake, case management, advocacy, and more.
